That You May Know

Volume Three of Letters to the Church Under Pressure

That You May Know is a ten-session confessional Lutheran study of 1–3 John for adult Bible classes, small groups, and personal reading.

The apostle states his purpose plainly: “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13). These sessions follow the three letters in order, attending to John’s “tests of life” (obedience, love, and belief) and to the assurance that is the pastoral heart of the whole: assurance that rests on Christ and His promise, delivered in Word and Sacrament, not on the shifting evidence of our own hearts.
