Psalms
Volume Two of The Things Concerning Himself
Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.” (Luke 24:44)
In the upper room on the evening of the resurrection, the Lord Jesus named the Psalms among the Scriptures written about Him. This second volume of The Things Concerning Himself reads the Psalter the way He taught His church to read it: as the prayer book of Christ. The Psalms are not only about Him; He prayed them, from His childhood to the cross, and He prays them still in His church.
Thirty-two sessions walk through the cross and the empty tomb in the Psalter, the royal psalms and the King at God’s right hand, the laments and the penitential psalms, the hard imprecatory psalms, the songs of ascents, the great psalms of trust and praise, and the Emmaus road where the whole volume comes together. Each session closes with discussion questions for an adult class or small group and a closing prayer.
