For the Struggling

You're a Christian — and you still struggle. These books are for you.

You are a Christian, and you still struggle. Maybe it is a besetting sin that has survived every resolution. Maybe it is a bottle. Either way, somewhere along the line you picked up the idea that real Christians get past this — and the longer the struggle lasts, the more you wonder about yourself.

These books say one thing from several directions: your struggle does not disqualify you, because your standing before God never rested on your winning streak. It rests on Christ, who baptized you, feeds you, and does not let go.

Start with THORN if the struggle is besetting sin in general. Start with KEPT if the struggle is addiction. Read Reverie for the memoir of what came after treatment, when music and ordinary people kept putting the next Thursday on the calendar. Read A MAN OF BLOOD for the warrior’s wounded conscience. Together they speak of grace arriving from outside us, in Christ’s gifts and through the vocations of our neighbors.
